The Fundamentals of Engineering exam is conducted by National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). It allows only specific models of scientific calculators during the exam. To see which models are allowed, please check here.

Using calculator during the FE Exam matters the most, as it can save a lot of time. Using scientific functions properly can make a difference of solving a problem easily vs. losing the marks despite knowing the concepts.

As proficient user you should be able to:

• Solve a linear equation involving two variables. (You can also solve a three variable equation, but that is nice to know.)
• Find roots of a quadratic equation. (or even a cubic polynomial.)
• Find determinant of a 2X2 or 3X3 matrix. Remember only square matrices have determinants.
• For electrical and computer discipline students, you can convert binary, octal and hexadecimal numbers into decimal numbers and vice versa.
• To perform linear regression on a given set of data and find out equation of regression line as well as correlation coefficient.
• To evaluate a definite integral.
• To evaluate hyperbolic trigonometric functions in addition to regular trigonometric functions.
• To be able to store some useful numbers in memory locations as an intermediate values which simplifying long expressions.
