Trip Generation
Predicting the number of trips, by purpose, that are generated by and drawn to each zone in a research area is the aim of trip generation.
In other words, trip generation is a model for the calculations of the number of trips ends in given area.
Objectives:- Understands the reasons behind the trip making behaviour.
- Produce mathematical relationships to represent trip making pattern on the basis of observed trips, land use data and household characteristics.
Trips can be home based (80-90% of the time), where one end of the trip is home. The remaining 10-20% trips are non-home based where neither end of the trip is home.
Trip ends are classified into Generations and Attractions.
No. of trip generations = No. of trip attractions.
Trip purpose can be shopping, work, recreational or school.
Multiple regression analysis is used to develop the prediction equations for the trips generated by various types of land use. \[Y_P = a_1X_1 + a_2X_2 + ...+ a_nX_n + U\] where,U = Error term
Trip Rate Analysis:
- Average trip-production or trip-attraction rates for specific types of producers and attractors.
- More suited to trip attractions
